Cole hasn't spent so long in another universe in quite some time. He hasn't been here the entire time of course, he's had to go home to check up on the kids and make sure everything's okay, but he's spent more hours than he cares to count sitting in this uncomfortable hospital chair. He'll be damned before he lets Victor go unguarded, not after what happened last time.

Her valiant protector may also be having a teensy bit of a nap in said uncomfortable chair, dozing while keeping half an ear out for if she makes any noise.

"I can, I dunno, skype them at least to let 'em know I'm okay and not to worry. We can have skype dinners with them!"

"Even though all you'll be getting is hospital food?" He might be poking fun a bit here.

[victormakesart]

"Of course hospital food isn't as wonderful as your cooking, but you know me. I'm no epicurean."

[backinthsaddle]

"I might have to smuggle something in for you one of these days." She doesn't eat enough as it is.

[victormakesart]

"Cookies? And candy?" she says, hopefully. "And jars of icing?"

[backinthsaddle]

"No jars of icing," he says sternly. "Possibly cookies if you're good, or it's broccoli casserole and stale matzo for you."

[victormakesart]

"But Cole," she whines, putting on her most serious pout. "Icing is healthy. It's got butter and milk in it."

She's worse than the kids.

"And sugar and fat," he says, tut-tutting a bit.

[victormakesart]

"Sugar and fat is at the top of the food pyramid. That means it's the most important!"

[backinthsaddle]

He sighs and gives her an exceedingly gentle shove. "What am I going to do with you?"

"Smother me with love and affection?" she suggests, batting her eyes at him.

[backinthsaddle]

"If I must." He shakes his head in that long-suffering way.

[victormakesart]

"You must," she confirms for him.

Then, entirely breaking the mood: "How weird are skin grafts? I don't think I'll get used to my arm like this!"

"Does it bother you?" That's what he's most worried about, the psychological aspect.

[victormakesart]

"Yes. I worry about rejecting the graft. I worry about not being able to move my arm. And it's kind of embarrassing in general." Well, given that they usually take skin for grafts from... places not seen in clothes, it makes sense that Vic would be embarrassed. And because there are very few places on her body that aren't scarred to heck.

"I guess it's too early to tell if there'll be rejection or not... but it's still yours, so you should be fine, right?"

[victormakesart]

"I hope so," she says. "Still the question of whether blood vessels'll grow right and stuff like that. Whether that part of my arm'll have sensation at all."

[backinthsaddle]

"Better than losing the arm," he says quietly, touching the bandage, careful not to press hard enough to hurt her. Or your life.

[victormakesart]

"Oh, it is. Definitely, it is," she says, lifting her other hand to brush against his knuckles.

"I'm still angry at Clark," he admits. "But I'm glad he had the decency to call me when you went missing."

[victormakesart]

She wets her lips, fingers twitching on his hand. She's not mad at Clark at all, and they've definitely been through how she feels about it. Even so, she's struggling with how to word what she wants to say without invalidating his feelings. "I understand," she says.

"I'm not saying I want you to be angry at him too." Although sometimes he wishes she would. "But I don't want you working with the League for a while."

[victormakesart]

She swallows hard. She'd been afraid of that, and she feels her eyes prickle a little but she doesn't want to get all emotional because she doesn't want to manipulate the answer to her next question. "How long is a while?"

[backinthsaddle]

"At least until you've recovered. Completely." He doesn't want her to try to weasel out of it once the wounds have closed, he wants her to stick with physical therapy and let her doctors say she's ready first.

[victormakesart]

"I agree," she says. "I don't want to risk undoing the good work the doctors've done. I want to be one-hundred percent before I go back out."
